days program
Day 1: Kampala
Around 9am you will journey will start, driving all the way to Murchison
Falls National Park. You will drive through the districts of Luwero
and Masindi with their traditional farms and villages that are green
and peaceful. You will have stopovers along the way where you can try
the typical roasted cassava and other local foods Arrive in Masindi
town in time for lunch. After lunch, proceed with the journey to the
National park and arrive in time for the afternoon boat cruise along
the Nile up to source of Murchison Falls. Drive to Hoima town, arriving
in the late evening for an overnight stop.
Day 2: Murchison Falls National Park
At 9:00, while still in the National Park, you will take a boat ride
along the Nile to the source of Murchison Falls: on the boat you will
see plenty of crocodiles, buffaloes, elephants, birds and hippos.
Upon arrival at the bottom of the falls, you will leave the launch
and take a guided nature walk along the falls up to the top of the
falls. This will take you between 45 minutes and an hour. This is
the most exciting walk along the falls as it will expose you to the
beauty and mighty force of Murchison falls. You will have a picnic
lunch at the top of the falls, before embarking on your journey through
Bugungu gate to Masindi town for the night. This will also take you
through village settlements where you will observe the population’s
life style and daily activities. Overnight in Hoima town at Kolping
Hotel.
Day 3: Hoima - Kibale National Park Chimpanzee Trekking
Have an early morning breakfast and drive to Fort Portal through
Kagadi, Kibale and Kyenjojo. Here you will pass through sugarcane,
tea, banana, coffee and cocoa plantations. Arrive in Kibale National
Park, Kanyanchu Visitor center in time for lunch and a briefing
about chimpanzee trekking or a nature walk. You will track the
chimps in their natural environment. Dinner and over night in
the National park.
Optional: Dinner with a local family where you will learn about the
Batooro traditional food, dances and life style. Night in Fort Portal
Day 4: Kibale National Park – Fort Portal
Leave the National Park after breakfast and drive to Fort Portal.
You will visit the Amabere caves in Nyakasura area. This is the traditional
home of the Bachwezi who were believed to be demi-gods. This area
still has historical regalia of the Bachwezi that helps one in understanding
the life they lived while still on earth (they later disappeared).
You will then take a nature walk to the crater lakes whose history
is associated with the mysterious Bachwezi. This walk will lead you
to the home of a traditional blacksmith. You will then proceed to
Fort Portal town for dinner and an overnight stop.
Day 5: Fort Portal – Kasese – Queen Elizabeth National
Park
Leave Fort Portal at 8am and drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park
through Fort Portal town west wards towards Kasese town. Here you
will be driving along the Mighty Mt. Rwenzori where you will have
a view of the beautiful scenery of the mountain stretching into the
snow white skies. You will have a stop over along the equator line
for photography and then proceed to the park headquarters for lunch.
You will then proceed to the launch on Kazinga channel where you will
have a 2 hour long afternoon boat cruise on the 27 km channel. This
cruise will introduce you to the bird life, and you will be in position
to view birds endemic to the channel, prominent among them the Great
Rwenzori turacco. In addition to this you will come eye to eye with
schools of hippos, buffaloes and elephants. Overnight in the National
Park
Day 6: Queen Elizabeth National Park – Bwindi National park
You will leave your hotel at 9am to proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable
National Park. On this journey, you will drive through Ishasha
sector to visit the tree climbing lions. This activity is very
interesting as you see lions targeting their prey while in the
trees. You will have a packed lunch after which you will leave
the National Park and drive to Bwindi. You will arrive in Bwindi
Impenetrable National Park around 7pm or in Kisoro at 9:30pm.
Night in Bwindi or Kisoro
Optional: Leave at 7am and drive to the bat and python cave. This
cave is home to over 10,000 bats and it also harbours pythons
Day 7: Gorilla Trekking
This day is specifically dedicated to trekking the mountain gorillas
- an extraordinarily emotional and mystical experience. If you are
not trekking the gorillas there is the option of half day mountain
trekking that will take you through the thick canopy of the forested
Mgahinga National Park and Mt. Muhabura. Depending on the time you
spend on mountain climbing or gorilla trekking there is the possibility
of visiting a local market or trading center in the evening. Dinner
and overnight.
Day 8: Kisoro – Lake Bunyonyi
You will have a traditional breakfast and you leave your hotel at
around 8:30Am. You will then visit the pygmies locally known as the
Batwa. They are an endangered community of Bushmen in Uganda and their
life style still strongly depends on forest life. They will perform
their dances punctuated by songs where the rhythm and body movements
will find you joining in the celebrations and joy of these people.
You will have lunch in Kisoro town and then drive to Lake Bunyonyi
through Lake Mutanda where you will embark on the snake walk looking
for the black mambas before embarking on the journey to Lake Bunyonyi
for dinner and overnight
Day 9: Lake Bunyonyi
After breakfast on the shores of the beautiful lake Bunyonyi and its
80-odd islands, you will cross the lake in locally made canoes, carved
from a single eucalyptus tree. This will take you to one of the islands
where you will have lunch and time to relax. In the evening, you will
visit to the third biggest anti-malaria production field in the world
where anti-malaria tablets are produced from artemisia plants. You
will then return over land to Lake Bunyonyi resort for dinner and
overnight. On this day you will be entertained with the Bakinga traditional
dance characterized by energetic and thunderous jumping to the rhythm
of the drums and clapping.
Day 10: Lake Bunyonyi – Lake Mburo National Park
After breakfast, you will drive eastwards through the gentle sloping
and rolling Kigezi hills, beautifully decorated with the terraces
that give this area the name “ the Switzerland of Africa”.
This journey will lead you through cattle ranches in Ntugamo and
Mbarara districts in western Uganda, arriving in Lake Mburo National
Park in time for lunch. After your lunch, you will have a game
drive in search for zebras, antelopes, leopards and other game.
In the evening, you will take a salt lick walk where there are
high chances of spotting four different species of animals while
they lick the salty soil.
Optional: Night safari searching for leopards on a scientific expedition
to protect and observe them. Dinner and overnight in Lake Mburo National
park
Day 11-12: Lake Mburo – Ssesse Islands
Leave at 7pm and arrive in Bukakata at 10pm. Transport will be via
a boat or ferry to Buggala, the main island for relaxation on the
sandy beach; On the second day departure via a ship to Entebbe where
you will have your lunch. In the afternoon transfer to Jinja for an
overnight stop.
Day 13: Jinja
In the morning you will drive eastwards stopping at Kalagala for
an introduction to African traditional medicine and how this medicine
is used in the treatment of different diseases. You will also
learn about African spirituality and belief systems. You will
visit the herbal medicinal gardens and then proceed to visit Bujagali
falls where you will visit another traditional doctor and take
walks around the river bank.
After lunch, you will take a trip to the much sought after source
of the Nile by boat. Dinner and overnight in Jinja
Day 14: Jinja
All day in Jinja:
Option 1: half or full day white water rafting with Nalubale Rafting
Option 2: half or full day quad-bike or bicycle around the local
villages
Option 3: Day at leisure relaxing in Jinja for going for nature
walks
Drive back to Entebbe according to the time of your flight
