Day 1: Nairobi - Lake Baringo
We depart from Nairobi early in the morning and drive through Limuru tea farms, descending to the floor of the Great Rift Valley with a brief stop at the viewpoint en-route to Lake Baringo, one of the two fresh waters lakes in the rift valley and a bird watchers paradise. It boasts over 460 recorded bird species and a number of hippos. Check in and lunch at Lake Baringo. A resident ornithologist leads walks before breakfast and in the evenings.

Day 2: Lake Baringo
After breakfast, take an hour-long bird watching trip by boat to the island. At an extra cost you can visit the Njemp village, where the villagers will demonstrate their traditional dancing; alternatively, you can visit a local snake farm.
We will then proceed to nearby Lake Bogoria. Lake Bogoria is a shallow soda lake hosting thousands of pink flamingos, as well as a large number of other birds. Scalding hot springs and geysers at the southern end of the lake spurt and steam spectacularly, and this area is home to hundreds of singing weaverbirds and numerous flamingos. Watching them feeding in the bluish water presents scene of rare beauty.

Day 3: Lake Baringo - Kakamega
After breakfast, we will drive to Kakamega national reserve. This is the country’s only tropical rain forest and formed part of the dense rain forest that stretched from west Africa, into the highland areas East and West of the great Rift Valley .The forest is world renowned as a ornithological treasure, being home to several hundred species of birds including rare snake eating birds, as well as insects, monkeys and other mammals.

Day 4: Kakamega
After breakfast, spend a full day in the Kakamega national reserve with bird walks accompanied by game wardens and our driver/guides.

Day 5: Kakamega - Nakuru
We will drive to Lake Nakuru national park after an early breakfast, arriving at the Lake Nakuru lodge in time for lunch. The park is a home to stunning flocks of lesser and greater flamingos, which turn the lake shores a magnificent pink. Over 400 species of bird can be seen, including white pelicans and the marabou stork. You may also spot white rhino, the rare Rothschild’s giraffe, and other plains game.

Day 6: Nakuru - Naivasha
In the morning, you can take a bird spotting drive in the park and around the lake before returning to the lodge for breakfast. We will then drive to Hell’s Gate National Park, making a brief stop at the Lake Elementaita viewpoint. The park is famous for its natural steaming geysers and is a haven for birdwatchers. The walking and hiking in the park in the open spaces gives an incredible sense of freedom, and affords a clear view of wildlife. The park’s cliffs are breeding grounds for vultures, verreauxs eagles, augur buzzards and thousands of swifts. Over 120 bird species have been recorded here. We will have lunch at Lake Naivasha and the afternoon is spent at leisure either exploring the rich, bird-filled gardens or taking an optional boat ride to Crescent Island (at an extra cost).

Day 7: Naivasha - Nairobi
Take a morning walk in the park to see a few more birds. After lunch on the park. After lunch we drive back to Nairobi, arriving in the evening.

 

 

 

10 days program
Day 1: Nairobi - Masai Mara
We leave Nairobi early in the morning for the Masai Mara Game Reserve, eating a picnic lunch en-route. On arrival you can spend the late afternoon bird-spotting in the vast reserve where there are plenty of species to see, as well as the wide variety of wild game.

Day 2: Masai Mara
A full day bird watching and game viewing in the Masai Mara with an optional nature walk, or a visit to a nearby Masai village in between meals.

Day 3: Masai Mara - Naivasha
After breakfast, we will leave for Lake Naivasha, visiting Hell’s Gate National Park, famous for its natural steaming geysers and a haven for bird watchers.

Day 4: Naivasha
Today will be spent in Hell’s Gate National Park, searching for both common and rare birds. Explore the rich, bird-filled gardens, and take an optional boat ride to Crescent Island.

Day 5: Lake Naivasha - Lake Nakuru
After breakfast there is another opportunity to take a ride to Cresenct Island. After this we will proceed to Lake Nakuru National Park, arriving in time for lunch. Lake Nakuru is an ornithological paradise, and is home to millions of flamingos and around 350 different species of birds, as well as the white rhino.

Day 6: Lake Nakuru - Lake Baringo/Bogoria
After breakfast we drive to Lake Baringo, bird-watching en-route. Lake Baringo is one of the two fresh water lakes along the Great Rift Valley, and it supports an enormous variety of bird species and a large number of hippos. We will arrive in Lake Baringo in time for lunch. After lunch you can take an hour long bird watching trip by boat to the island, where you are also likely to see hippos. At the island you can take optional excursions like a visit to the Njemps village, where the villagers will demonstrate their traditional dancing; alternatively, you can visit the local snake farm.
In the afternoon we will visit Lake Bogoria, a shallow soda lake home to a large number of birds and the rare lesser kudu. . Scalding hot springs and geysers at the southern end of the lake spurt and steam spectacularly, and this area is home to hundreds of singing weaverbirds and numerous flamingos. Watching them feeding in the bluish water presents scene of rare beauty.

Day 7: Nakuru - Treetops
After breakfast we will leave for Treetops via Thompson Falls to arrive at Outspan Hotel (the base for Treetops) in time for lunch. The current British Queen was holidaying at the Treetops when she received the news about her ascension to the throne. After lunch you will be transferred to Treetops, which is in the Aberdares National Park.
Dinner and overnight at the tree hotel. There is spectacular game viewing from your room’s balcony, from where you get a fantastic view of the birds and animals that flock the floodlit waterhole and saltlick below.

Day 8: Treetops - Samburu
After breakfast, we will leave for Samburu, arriving in time for lunch. In the evening you will take a sunset game drive.

Day 9: Samburu
This morning, before breakfast, you will depart for an early morning bird-watching and game drive. After breakfast you have the day to spend at your leisure. An ideal time for spotting different bird species is in the evening – you may also see the lioness famous for adopting different antelope!

Day 10: Samburu - Nairobi
After breakfast, we will take a game drive en route to Nairobi. Stop at the Thika Falls for the last opportunity to spot birds and arrive in Nairobi in the evening.
