Zanzibar

Zanzibar is an archipelago made up of Zanzibar and the  Pemba Islands, famous for the beautiful sandy beaches fringed with coral reefs, historic Stone Town, the Swahili culture and the ancient tradition of spice cultivation.

Stone Town is a place of bustling bazaars, mosques and grand Arab houses. You can just wander through the fascinating labyrinth of narrow streets and alleyways in this ancient town recently declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Zanzibar's brilliant white beaches are lapped by the warm turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean and provide the perfect place to relax, soak up the sun and take a break from some busy sightseeing. The beaches in Zanzibar are a paradise, interspersed with picturesque fishing villages, where the people live a simple way of life, unchanged over the years.

Zanzibar also has some of the best diving in the world thanks to the huge variety of marine life that thrive in the coral reefs. Large gamefish (barracuda, kingfish, tuna and wahoo) hunt together with large Napoleonic wrasse, graceful manta rays and sharks. There are several dive centres on the island and most run courses from pure beginners to master level.
